Welcome to Eden’s Gate!

Hello, if you are reading this then know you have been selected. You will be cleansed. You will confess your sins and you will be offered atonement. Don’t worry you won’t have to do anything, we’ll come for you.

By opening up this post you have made the first step towards salvation, towards finding your true purpose in life. The Father has shown us all the truth, the true reason for our being. That is to defeat the Eden’s Gate Cult and its leader The Father!

If you haven’t guessed I’ve been playing Far Cry 5 the next instalment in the Far Cry series and for some strange reason the first ever Far Cry game I have played. As a deputy you are sent to the Eden Gate compound to arrest their cult leader The Father, head of the Seed family, on charges of kidnapping with intent to harm.

As you can imagine, attempting to arrest a volatile cult’s beloved leader goes about as well as you would expect. They see you as a sign of the end of the world, and take it as a sign to raid and kill the locals. You end up in the middle of rural America leading the resistance against the cult while the family attempts to capture and make you atone.

Far Cry is an amazing game that threw me right into the action in the opening sequence. From there over the top crazy fanatics, some eccentric allies and psychedelic substances set the tone for the amazingly over the top story line.

The graphics look amazing, the forests and landscapes are beautiful if deadly thanks to the wolves and Mountain Lions. The choice of companions and weapons allows for tonnes of different game types (the bow and boomer being my favourites!). The topical nature of the game’s story (whether intentional or coincidental) is also fun, I love it when games mirror current events.

By first impressions I have fallen in love with the game and can’t wait to get back to it and finish the story line. With Far Cry 5 being my first dive into the series my question to you is are  the others worth playing? Which Far Cry is the best?

  1. Far Cry 3 was my first Far Cry game and one that I still enjoy playing now. I have to say that Far Cry 5 is, at the moment, a strong contender for pushing Far Cry 3 from my top spot, though!
